OVERVIEW
Microbiology is a branch of medicine refers to study of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria, fungi, protists and viruses. The subject provide knowledge & skills related to clinical investigation, diagnosis & treatment of patients suffering from infectious diseases and for implementing infection control programmes and developing a feasible Antibiotic policy. The subject covers Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology, Mycology, Immunology and providing acumen for interpreting lab results in correction with clinical presentation.
The microbiology department has three main roles:- Teaching/ Academic activities
- Diagnostic laboratory services
- Research activities
The department’s faculty members are actively involved in research work and the results of their research have been presented and published in both national and international medical journals.
FACILITIES & SERVICES:- Clinical laboratory is a part of the central laboratory of the hospital, equipped with automated diagnostic facilities for routine microbiological investigations in- Bacteriology, Serology, Immunology, Parasitology, Mycology, Virology &TB culture, blood culture system and drug sensitivity testing of bacterial isolates.

TEACHING & TRAINING ACTIVITIES:
- The teaching/training activities of the department include didactic lectures, demonstrations, and practical sessions .The curriculum is developed as per the norms of MCI with aim to provide understanding of the natural history of infectious diseases in order to deal with the etiology, pathogenesis, pathogenicity, laboratory diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention of these infections and infectious diseases.
- Students will be encuraged to develop analytical and compreshenion ability by way of visit to hospital wards and interactive bedside tutorial for understanding of infectious diseases process of national importance in relation to the clinical, therapeutic and preventive aspects pathophysiology of signs and Management of common health diseases.
