Pulmonology often involves managing patients who need life support and mechanical ventilation. Pulmonologists are specially trained in diseases and conditions of the chest, particularly pneumonia, asthma,COPD tuberculosis, ILDS, and complicated chest infections.

TEACHING/TRAINING ACTIVITIES
The curriculum has been prepared in pursuance of MCI regulations and comences in the 3rd semester of the MBBS program as allied subject of Medicine and continues up to 9th semester. The students are posted in batches for clinical training to learn clinical skills, for the duration prescribed by the MCI, and encouraged to practice practice these skills on patients under direct guidance of faculty. Lecures, small group discussion and problem based tutorial are also organised for development of comprehension, analysis and communication skills. Students are also encluraged to participate in regular bedside clinic and integrated seminar, case presentation skill sessions are also organised for undergraduate students.
FUTURE PLAN
To establish center with diagnostic facilities of Endobronchial ultrasound guided lymph node sampling and Thoracoscopy Allersy and immunothevapy sleep laborarotiy and pulmenory rehabilitation programmes. Though the subject TB& Chest diseases is a branch of general medicine, it has a full fledged department in HSK Hospital Bagalkot, because of the importance the subject enjoys at National & international level. About 1/5th of the total patients worldwide suffering from tuberculosis and allied diseases live in India. The departmental also works hand in gloves with the Karnataka government in implementing Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme ( RNTCP).

  • A dedicated Specilaty clinic for patients of Asthma during OPD
  • General and private male and female wards along with facilities of intensive care with medicine department
  • Participation in national health programme for treatment and eradication of tuberculosis
  • Periodical Health Education camps for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of tuberculosis
  • Regular consultation service to community at urban and rural health centers of medical college.
