TEACHING/TRAINING ACTIVITIES:
The curriculum has been prepared in pursuance of MCI regulations and commences in the 3rd semester of the MBBS program and continues up to 7th semester. Students are posted in department of Ophthalmology for 3 hours, in batches for learning clinical skills, every day for each semester as per the recommendations of MCI, and encouraged to practice practice these skills on patients under direct guidance of faculty. Lectures, small group discussion and problem based tutorial are also organized for development of comprehension, analysis and communication skills. Students are also encouraged to participate in regular bedside clinic and integrated seminar; case presentation skill sessions are also organized for undergraduate students.
FACILITIES AND SERVICES: DEPARTMENT OF OPTHEMOLOGY HAS BEEN PROVIDED WITH-

  5. Audio-visual teaching Aids with LCD projector for power point presentations of didactic Lectures / Seminars, OHP projector, facilities of Internet connection for Faculty, SLR camera for operative, clinical and research photograph.
  6. Surgical Museum with mounted specimens, catalogues, photographs and potraits of emineiant Ophthalmic surgeons
  7. Out Patient service having separate consultation rooms for faculty, refraction room, facilities for minor Operation Theater, auto primary room ,pediatric ophthalmology room.
  8. Routine cataract, retina disease screening, and glaucoma screening service in and outside of hospital, also all kinds of treatments, in ophthalmology including oculoplasty , squint etc. in additional to above.
  9. Emergency department after OPD hours for accident and emergency.
  10. Indoor ophthalmic surgery male and female wards with free medicine, foods and laboratory and radiological investigation.
  11. Dedicated Modular Operation Theaters for routine and emergency surgery
  12. Outreach surgical activities though regular Camps , conducted in a remote area and Free transport for patients, require admission for surgery in hospital
  13. Periodically organized camps at peripheral areas around Amreli and remote areas to reach to the poorest blind population, as a part of multi-diagnostic camps.
