Anesthesiology is the medical specialty deals with pharmacologic, physiologic, and clinical basis of anesthesia and related fields, including resuscitation, intensive respiratory care, and the management of acute and chronic pain. The subject focuses on preoperative medicine and the administration of anesthesia. One of the fundamental practices of anesthesiologists is that of general anesthesia in which a person is placed in a reversible medical coma to performed surgery without the individual responding to pain during surgery.
