Overview
The branch of medicine that deals with the prevention and correction of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system, associated muscles, joints and ligaments, often by surgery. This subject is taught to the undergraduate students as a part of Surgery subject. An MBBS student should know about the commonly encountered conditions in orthopedics pertaining to their diagnostic features, basic path physiological aspect and the general and basic management strategies. An MBBS student should know the man oeuvres for reduction of common fractures and dislocations such as Coles' fracture, supra condoler fracture of hummers, dislocation of shoulder, elbow and hip etc. The department caters services to patients with diseases of muscular-skeletal system caused due to result of trauma and various other conditions such as soft tissue and joint diseases, congenital problems.

To impart competency based comprehensive orthopedic training, advanced clinical and surgical orthopedic patient care, and conducting innovative research for relieving pain, improving function, and restoring quality of life to the individuals, suffering from musculoskeletal injury or diseases
TEACHING/TRAINING ACTIVITIES:
The curriculum for orthopedics has been prepared in pursuance of MCI regulations and commences in the 3rd semester of the MBBS program and continues up to 9th semester. III Semester students are posted in department of Orthopedics for 3 hours, in batches for learning clinical skills, every day for 20 weeks, and encouraged to practice these skills on patients under direct guidance of faculty. Lectures, small group discussion and problem based tutorial are also organized for development of comprehension, analysis and communication skills. Students are also encouraged to participate in regular bedside clinic and integrated seminar, case presentation skill sessions are also organized for undergraduate students.
