Overview

Pathology is scientific way of study of disease/disorder. Pathology is a branch of medicine, which links basic sciences with clinical symptoms and signs. It helps the medical students to understand the basic mechanism and pathophysiology of diseases. The diagnostic sub-specialties within this Department include Histopathology, Cytopathology, Hematology, Immunopathology and Clinical Pathology, immunopathology hematology, experimental pathology. The Pathology Department is one of the academic departments of the College of Medicine involved in connecting the pre-clinical stage with the clinical stage through teaching courses that enable the student to identify the causes of diseases and how to diagnose them. Now departmental laboratory known as clinical laboratory medicine.

Vision

The primary function of the department is to teach pathology to II year MBBS students. Apart from this, the dental physiology conducts teaching for BDS and diploma as well as nursing students. The dept is also imparting postgraduate training for MD (pathology) students. Department of pathology is a service department. Histopathology, cytology, clinical pathology, hematology & blood bank fall under the purview of this department.

To provide the highest quality & effective support for the inpatient and outpatient clinical services to the hospitals in the area, Support and lead programmatic research, and highest quality education, training and research experience for medical students.

3. To provide self reliant pathologist to the society with high quality theoretical & practical learning programmes, exposing them to advanced diagnostic techniques, so as to make them to face ever changing global needs.
4. To inculcate values of ethical based practice to help them do justice & honesty to their profession & to the society.

• The department is provided with excellent infrastructures for imparting teaching and hospital services. The department has been provided with for clinical clinical and hematology and histopathology experiment.

• Audiovisual teaching facilities e.g. OHP,LCD projector
• Blood bank facilities
• Museum with mounted specimens with catalogues, charts and micrographs and potraits of important personalities and events in the history of Medicine.
• The Hematology and Clinical Pathology services include complete hemogram, hemoparasite detection, ESR, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, reticulocyte count, basic coagulation workup, urine routine and microscopic examination and fluid cell counts.
TECHING/TRAINING FACILITIES

The teaching/training activities of the department include didactic lectures, demonstrations, and practical sessions in hematology, Clinical Pathology, cytopathology. Students will be encouraged to develop analytical and comprehension ability by way of visit to hospital wards and interactive bedside tutorial for understanding pathophysiology of signs and Management of common health diseases.

FUTURE PLANS:
• To provide facility for intra-operative diagnosis.
• To set up an advanced diagnostic facility for coagulation and bleeding disorders.
• Establish immunofluorescence laboratory for Dermatopathology and Nephropathology.
